~~ Margaret Thatcher: a life in style ~~

Image
Margaret Thatcher's policies may have divided opinion, but there’s no doubting that her signature style made her a fashion icon. The former UK Prime Minister died earlier this week, leaving behind an impressive fashion legacy. As a woman in the male-dominated world of politics, the first and only female Prime Minister in the UK cultivated a personal style that was suitably formal yet unmistakably feminine. In the early years of her political career during the 1970s, the pussybow blouse became her style staple, as did prim and proper pearls, decorative pins and perfectly-coiffed hair (not forgetting her trademark Asprey handbag). As her power increased, the look became sharper, with skirt suits forming the basis of her 1980s wardrobe, in every shade of Conservative blue imaginable. Even as she aged and her health deteriorated, Thatcher’s commitment to style remained as pictures of her on her 87th birthday – in a lilac coat and dress, complete with a pear

'Avatar' sequel to feature underwater shots

Image
New York: Producer Jon Landau has revealed that unlike James Cameron's first 'Avatar' that was shot largely on a green screen performance-capture stage, parts two and three will be shot partially underwater. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 52-year-old said at the NAB Technology Summit on Cinema that they have kept a team of digital artists from the first film, in order to test how they can create performance capture underwater. Landau told the New York Daily News that though they could simulate water in computer graphics, they can't simulate the actor's experience, so they are going to capture performance in a tank. He said that they wanted to take advantage of the technology that people are putting out there to make the next two movies more engaging and visually tantalizing, and wrap up the story arc of the two main characters. The Academy Award winner added that they are trying to stay as current as possible with the digital technology.

Ranbir Kapoor Wants To Do Negative Roles

Image
Ranbir Kapoor wants to play the baddie, but the star of movies like “Rockstar” and “Barfi!” says no director is ready to accept him in such a role. “I would love to play a negative role, something that is like an anti-hero. Something without guitars, rose and without a heroine. I have been asking this for quite a long time, and I hope the directors are hearing me out and come out with scripts like that,” the 30-year-old told IANS. “I think the time when films like ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Lagaan’ came into being, that was the period when we noticed the slight switch in storytelling. I think cinema has kind of evolved after that. Also, I think every hero was playing the same character over three to four years in the past, but right now there is so much diversity in characters,” said the young hearthrob from Bollywood’s famous Kapoor family. “There are so many challenging roles now. There are more stories to tell. Back then, there were more society problems (in fil

Deepika Padukone Turns Desi Girl

Image
Leggy beauty Deepika Padukone presented herself as a party girl in all her films in the past years like Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail, and Break Ke Baad. One got to see her as the modern, self-governing, light-hearted, fun, commitment-phobic girl. Deepika Padukone has shed her urban look for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film Ram Leela and designer Anju Modi, who has dressed the actress in the movie , says it was a dream come true to work with her. “Sanjay and I were very clear about the look we wanted to give Deepika. So, while the lehengas had to reflect the royal lineage of the Kutch region, they also had to have a very contemporary feel as Ram Leela is not a period drama,” Anju said. But looks like she is geared up for a change now and is heading for some subtle roles! As one can see the rushes of Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Dips looks all naïve and coy.
