English Translation of Al-Quran [24].Surah An-Nur [The Light] Ayat 30. Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do. [Tafseer] of ayat 30. Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. The rule of modesty applies to men as well as women. A brazen stare by a man at a woman (or even at a man) is a breach of refined manners. Where the main issue concerned is good social life, modesty is not only "good form": it is not only to guard the weaker woman, but also to guard the spiritual good of the stronger men.
