~~ 'The Great Gatsby' ~~

'The Great Gatsby' follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki and Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan was recently presented with N T Rama Rao National Film Award set up by the Andhra Pradesh government. “I feel humbled being honoured with an award that carries the name of N.T. Rama Rao, a great man with whom I worked a lot. We exchanged ideas and remade Telugu films in Hindi and vice versa and I interacted a lot with him. Cinema is a great unifier and integrator. I think of the 100 years of Indian cinema since dada Saheb Phalke’s ‘Raja Harishchandra’ in 1913 and how much films have grown, transformed. I wish cinema grows even further to unify the nation,” Big B said after receiving the award from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Notable recipients of this year’s Nandi Awards include Nagarjuna, Mahesh Babu, Nayanthara, Charmee, G. Adiseshagiri Rao, Kaikala Satyanarayana, Shyam Benegal, among others.
