Angelina Jolie says that she has had a preventive double mastectomy after learning she carried a gene that made it extremely likely she would get breast cancer. The Oscar-winning actress and partner to Brad Pitt made the announcement in the form of an op-ed she authored for Tuesday’s New York Times under the headline, “My Medical Choice.” She writes that between early February and late April she completed three months of surgical procedures to remove both breasts. Jolie, 37, writes that she made the choice with thoughts of her six children after watching her own mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, die too young from breast cancer. “My mother fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56,” Jolie writes. “She held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms. But my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was.” She writes ...

Britney Spears' mother is reportedly unhappy with the singer’s laidback style and has suggested that she hire a live-in stylist. Although the popstar always looks polished at events and on the television, she is often photographed dressed in less glamorous attire during her daily life. A source has revealed that Britney’s mom, Lynne Spears, is taking it upon herself to make sure the 31-year-old always leaves the house looking her best. 'Lynne’s suggesting she [Britney] has a live-in make-up artist and stylist from now on,' the insider told UK magazine Heat. 'She thinks being pictured looking a mess all the time could affect Britney’s reputation.' Britney recently split from her fiancé Jason Trawick and it has been suggested that she is not taking the breakup very well. Jason served as the singer’s co-conservator and helped make many decisions about her life. Some believe this may be part of the cause for Britney’s recent laidback style...

Here is a look at all the stand out red carpet appearances that blew us away and some of the trends that came out. Naomi Watts was my favourite of the night, by miles! She dazzled in the biggest ‘trend of the night’, metallic, wearing a stunning blue-grey fully sequinned custom Giorgio Armani Prive gown with a modern shoulder cut-out. She paired her gown with sparkling Neil Lane jewels, messy updo and pink lip colour. Jessica Chastain looked quite the flawless glamazon in a copper embellished custom strapless Giorgio Armani Prive gown with a slight train. She finished off her look with Harry Winston jewels, soft side swept red waves and a striking red lip. Halle Berry rocked a full sleeved black and silver column gown from Versace (which I first mistook for a Zuhair Murad) with structured shoulders and plunging neckline. Guillermo del Toro’s (the guy who brought us the brilliant Pan's Labyrinth)  latest project sees giant monsters arising from a crevice in the Pacific Ocean. If that wasn't exciting enough, world leaders then unleash massive robots to combat the brutal monsters. We're thinking that the end result will be something like Godzilla meets Transformers meets amazing! Given Guillermo's track record of making brilliant movies, we can't wait for Pacific Rim to hit our screens but until then, we'll have to make do with these fantastic new stills from the movie...

The BAFTAs red carpet was awash with experimental and flamboyant hairstyles. We spoke to Jessica Speechly Head of Hair Colour at Errol Douglas Salon to round-up her standout hair looks from the night and tips on how to achieve the look at home. "Dame Helen takes a chance with her hair colour", says Jessica, "and it pays off!" This longer execution of the pixie cut and fun skin-tone flattering soft baby pink makes an entrance.  "When choosing a hair colour from the pop spectrum, avoid colours that will be too harsh for your skin as it can strip older skin of its glow," explains Jessica.  Dame Helen also has the personality to pull this off, and shows age really isn’t a barrier to occasion hair fun”

Few movies have the superpower to get us more excited than Tony Stark's latest adventure Iron Man 3. In fact, we almost had a geek-fit when we saw the latest footage from the Marvel flick during this year's Super Bowl game. Introduced by Robert Downey Jnr., the teaser trailer followed the traditional Marvel recipe of explosions, special effects and deep monologues. It did its job though and now we're hungry to see more of the film.
