Cannes Film Festival 2013: The Great Gatsby premiere

Image
Cannes Film Festival 2013 got off to a flying start with the premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s new movie, The Great Gatsby. The opening movie saw the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Muliigan and Isla Fisher walking down the red carpet – but not before they had to battle the terrible weather! Known for its mild climate, we bet the stars were stunned when it started to rain! Still, Leo and Tobey Maguire didn’t seem too bothered… Flick through our gallery to see more pictures from the Cannes red carpet…

'The Great Gatsby' follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki and Amitabh Bachchan. Stars of The Great Gatsby attend costume exhibition launch

Three of Hollywood's most stunning leading ladies attended the swanky launch event in New York - the Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby Opening Cocktail Party - and managed to steal all the attention from the incredible designer costumes on show. Isla Fisher and Carey Mulligan both star in The Great Gatsby, the decadent new Baz Luhrmann version of the F Scott Fitzgerald novel, and they posed alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal. She's not in the film herself, but she's clearly a fan of the costumes!
