Cannes Film Festival 2013 got off to a flying start with the premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s new movie, The Great Gatsby. The opening movie saw the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Muliigan and Isla Fisher walking down the red carpet – but not before they had to battle the terrible weather! Still, Leo and Tobey Maguire didn’t seem too bothered… Flick through our gallery to see more pictures from the Cannes red carpet…

'The Great Gatsby' follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki and Amitabh Bachchan. The advice of course, was not taken. A series of supporting work in television soon followed, but his talent was meant for greater things. Leonardo DiCaprio has come a long way since then, especially after leading roles in 'Romeo+Juliet' and 'Titanic'. The young actor with striking good looks became an overnight phenomenon, spawning legions of female fans and an entire industry thriving on all things DiCaprio. And as he continues to defy typecasts, clichés and all other conventions about actors, today, Leo works less to shed his post-Titanic choco boy-next-door tag. Instead, he advocates environmentalism, a subject he is very passionate about, even driving a hybrid-car to further his efforts.
