~~Priyanka Chopra’s item number in SAW worth Rs. 2.8 crore ~~
Priyanka Chopra is one of the few A-list Bollywood actresses who has never have done an item number. But now, she will be seen doing one in director Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala (SAW). Of course, the model-turned-actor-turned-pop star does not come cheap. According to sources, her remuneration
for that one song is Rs. 2.8 crore, which is around what she normally charges to do an entire film.
“She is in the midst of shooting for two films, Zanjeer and Gunday, but she still managed to findtime for the song, since she was getting almost the same money she gets for a film,” says a source.
Interestingly, SAW is being produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, who are also making Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Milan Talkies, with Priyanka. The production house, then, must be hoping to get its money’s worth thanks to the actor.
Tanuj Garg, chief executive officer, Balaji Telefilms, hints at this news being true when he says, “It is all worth it, as this is going to be her first item song ever. It’s also going to be the song that launches the film’s promotion. The amount of time and money that has gone in making this song is because we wanted to make it big.” Priyanka will now be part of the promotions before the film’s May 1 release.
The actor did the song even though her film Zanjeer releases around the same time. Garg explains, saying, “Now she has the relationship with Balaji as she is also doing Milan Talkies with us, which is going to start in September. This is an extension of the relationship.”
Apparently, Priyanka was even asked to sing the item song, but when that didn’t work out, Sunidhi Chauhan was roped in. “It’s an elaborate song. I had suggested she (Priyanka) sing it, but I don’t know if she has a contract restricting her from singing in any film,” Garg says.
